Not really. There are schedules that Amtrak publishes. Now, whether they can get the trains to hold to it…that's another story, but it doesn't make this an oxymoron.
Not an oxymoron
an oxymoron is two words in a sentence that mean the opposite on each other like
icy hot, pretty ugly, and clean dirt
anyone who says this isn’t an oxymoron obviously has not actually used amtrak
not a fucking oxymoron
This isn’t an oxymoron like the others, but from experience taking Amtrak everyday, it has been true more than a few times (i.e., they are late far more than they should be).
I get it as a joke, but this is not an oxymoron anymore than stretching a tube sock over your head makes it a hat. And that’s about how far you have to stretch the meaning of Oxymoron to make it fit. An Oxymoron is a contradcition in terms, and “Amtrak Schedule” is not a contradiction in terms, its a noun, or an Adjective and a Noun, if you prefer. HAVING a Schedule and keeping to it are two different things. Now, if it were a phrase like “Dependable Amtrak”, then MAYBE it would qualify, although semantics would still argue that “Amtrak” does not literally mean “undependable” since it actually is a portmanteau of America+track, but its the closest thing you’ll get to being an Oxymoron.
