I think that calculated implies that everything is carefully planned out and makes sense, while a risk implies that not everything is planned out. However, I am not sure.

I disagree. Statistics makes a science of risk analysis through which the nature (what form it will take as random events are repeated over and over) of the risk is know in great details , even if the factors that shapes it aren’t known.
In that sense, the risk can be calculated with a lot of precision.
