football scholarship

Somehow, I just can’t figure most football players as “scholars”.  Colleges want to recruit them to win games for their school and add to the school’s “prestige” but there is little or no examination of their academic records.    Instead of the term “scholarship” why don’t we just say “pigskin purses” instead  It’s closer to reality.
